Walmart is more than just fresh grocery and TVs - they also have the top toy brands that everyone’s looking for during the holidays.

To disrupt the usual chaos of Times Square, Walmart tapped a familiar green hand to do what he does best - steal. The Grinch stole products from other brands’ OOH and turned them into Black Friday Deals.

from times square to subway stations across the city, the grinch showed off the hottest deals on toys this christmas.

I helped lead art direction across both the Walmart ads and other brands ads, helping to drive craft and accuracy from conception to finishing. the result? an integrated campaign full of classic grinch mischief that got people talking about what walmart had to offer.

The Grinch stole, slapped and peeled his way through this year’s black friday deals with more than just times square ads. he infiltrated social channels and digital ooh to reveal even more mischief.

with over 37% increase in sales and over 57% more black friday orders verses last year, the campaign was a success! but the most important metric was the grinch’s heart, which grew 3 sizes <3.

in early december, walmart took over times square for a full day to promote last minute gifting with express delivery. getting gifts in under an hour with walmart? easy. timing the animation of these sky high billboards? a little harder.

we journeyed to the heart of manhattan to see the ads live and snag some pics -
including the walmart team in front of the ad takeover after ringing the bell!
